A Spotlight on Sunrise Engineering’s Electrical Engineering Service Center

Electrical engineering, the invisible force behind modern civilization, intricately weaves innovation into the fabric of our infrastructure. Within Sunrise Engineering, our Electrical Engineering service center stands as a driving force behind the scenes. This blog post takes you on a journey through the history, expertise, and crucial role of this dynamic team in delivering comprehensive solutions to our clients.

The Heart of Electrical Engineering at Sunrise Engineering

Our Electrical Engineering department consists of a dynamic team spread across various offices. Experts like Randy Knapp, Marlin Smith, John Sevey, Kolt Davies, Connor Parker, and Gatlin Penney contribute unique skills to projects ranging from water and wastewater systems to industrial giants like Kennecott and Compass Minerals. Our services encompass everything from new project designs to in-depth studies like Arc Flash Hazard Analysis.

John Sevey brings over two decades of experience from the utility sector, providing invaluable insights. Marlin Smith, with a background as an electrician, adds practical experience and a hands-on approach. Kolt Davies specializes in electrical studies, while Connor Parker, our recent graduate, brings a fresh perspective and a hunger for tackling design challenges. Gatlin Penney, our intern from SUU, is on his way to becoming an electrical engineer. Lastly, Randy Knapp, the Service Center Manager, precisely balances managerial duties with his diligent electrical engineering work.

Collaboration is at the core of what we do. We work closely with service center managers and project managers to understand electrical requirements and provide designs that minimize the need for external consultants. Our goal is to seamlessly integrate our services into the larger project framework, ensuring a cohesive and efficient process.

Lighting Up Communities

The electrical engineering service center plays a pivotal role in the success of Sunrise projects. Whether it’s ensuring the success of water and wastewater projects or enhancing worker safety for industrial clients, our fingerprints are all over the communities we serve. We take pride in contributing to the success and safety of our clients’ endeavors. While Sunrise Engineering is our largest client, we’ve also forged strong relationships with external partners. Notable collaborations include projects with Kennecott Utah Copper and Compass Minerals in Ogden, highlighting the trust they place in our electrical engineering expertise.

Navigating Public Spaces and Adapting to Change

Safety is non-negotiable in our line of work. Adhering to the National Electric Code (NEC) is a baseline, but we go above and beyond, ensuring our designs meet the highest safety standards. Our commitment to safety extends to client-specific requirements, where additional training is a must. We’re not just engineers; we’re champions of a safety culture. Over the years, we’ve embraced change. Remote work, electronic meetings, and collaboration across multiple offices have become second nature. This adaptability not only fosters a positive work environment but also enhances communication with our colleagues and clients.

The Path to Becoming an Electrical Engineer

Wondering how to join the electrical engineering ranks? It starts with an electrical engineering degree from an accredited university, followed by successfully passing the FE and PE exams. It’s a challenging journey, but one that opens doors to a world of exciting possibilities.

Additionally, we are on the lookout for new team members, particularly an additional professional engineer (PE). If you’re passionate about electrical engineering and want to contribute to impactful projects, we’d love to hear from you.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Electrical Engineering Department at Sunrise Engineering is not just a team of engineers; they are a driving force behind the success of projects that light up communities. From collaborating with other departments to prioritizing safety, our commitment to excellence is unwavering. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of technology and client needs, the future of electrical engineering at Sunrise Engineering looks bright, and we’re ready to power it up!
